100 Mile Club

We started a 100 Mile Club at our morning, lunch, and afternoon recesses. Students walk around the track painted on the playground and count their laps, then track them in their classroom after recess.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Teachers and students worked together to help encourage all students to walk in the 100 Mile Club. Students made posters and tally up the laps completed by the student walkers. Teachers help with the scoring and the posting of the tracking sheets.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Right now we are outside walking during the winter with indoor recess; we will walk inside and keep track of laps done inside. Students can keep the miles they walked in 3rd grade for their 4th and 5th grade years.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I see many more children of all ages walking around our track, which is painted on the playground. Older children recruit the younger children to join them when walking.
