Physical Activity Participation

After three years of fundraising, we were able to install a paved trail on our playground. One lap equals 1/4 mile. We use the EZ-Tally at recess, where students have the opportunity of running laps towards their goal of 100 miles. At each 10 miles reached, a student receives a "toe token" for their shoe. At the end of the year, those reaching 100 miles will receive a trophy for their accomplishments.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have nearly 100% recess participation. The toe tokens are a huge incentive and we have students running every day. There is an increase in running and that has carried over to our students joining the track/cross country team when they move to the Middle School.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The program runs all school year long and we advertise several area 5K events that will take place during the summer months. This program has been in place for 3 years and interest hasn't waned.
