2nd Annual Breakfast Cook-off

This year we hosted our 2nd Annual Breakfast Cook-off during National School Breakfast Week. Students worked in small groups and used farm fresh ingredients to create healthy a breakfast that included all food groups. They had one hour to complete the task. Once they finished, they presented the judges their dishes along with why they should choose their dish. The judges (our school cafeteria manager, local Dairy Council ladies, and a chef and manager from a local restaurant, Snooze) tasted all dishes and then named their favorite by giving them the Chefs' Choice Award. We also had some students be student judges and they picked the Kids' Choice Award winner. Winners received prizes from our local Arizona Dairy Council, our school PTSO, and a free breakfast from our local breakfast eatery, Snooze.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our students were actually in charge during this event. The teacher was there just to support the students by cutting things for them, making sure they didn't burn themselves and cheer them on. It was fun to see the students in charge!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We used our Fuel Up funds to buy portable "kitchens" so that we can do this every year. Our PTSO and Dad's Club will help us buy the ingredients we need.
