7th Annual Back-To-Football Friday Kick-off

Lucky # 7: On Friday, 9/11, Cocopah's 7th Annual Back-To-Football Friday Kick-off for Fuel Up to Play 60 was held. Students were encouraged to wear red or AZ Cardinal apparel to support our hometown team. Morning announcements promoted our kick-off event. Sixth grade students were Fired Up for our Fuel Up kick-off assembly . Students learned what Fuel Up was all about, guest athletes for over 18 activity stations were introduced, and students were challenged by Big Red to make some NOISE! Our cafeteria staff hosted a tailgate lunch in honor of the kick-off to Fuel Up and to the Cardinal Season. We demonstrated our physical activity by participating in the more than 18 stations, plus hydration stations were available and Albertsons & Frys. Yearbook sponsored a photo booth. Guest athletes and parent volunteers were able to enjoy the tailgate lunch and healthy snacks throughout all THREE lunch periods. This was our biggest, boldest, and best Back-to-Football Friday to Fuel Up to Play 60 and support our hometown AZ Cardinals!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students, staff, parents, and members of the community worked together to make our "kick-off" event the biggest, boldest, and best ever! Each grade level had terrific participation in the activities and wearing red (AZ Cardinal attire)! We had more stations for students to participate in than ever before. We reached out to build partnerships with various businesses (Albertsons, Frys, Smoothie, King, Dairy Council of AZ, AZ Cardinals, local athletes and clubs, and our parent community.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We know that the weather is going to play a factor in Arizona in the month of September. Whether it is a dry heat or not...it's hot! We had several hydration stations available, sample smoothies (golden ticket winners), and water bottles for each student when they returned to their classroom after lunch. We had some tent areas available for both students and guest athletes.
