The West High PE Department is holding the third annual 9/11 Memorial Bleacher Climb. This event is being held to honor the 343 firefighters of the New York Fire Department who made the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. This year’s Climb will be held in Del Marcel Stadium on Tuesday, September 11th during all periods of the day. During period 3, we will have a moment of silence to honor the lives that were lost on that day. At approximately 9:45, Ms. Scherer and the Wind Ensemble will be performing the “Star Spangled Banner”. West students will be climbing the bleachers 11 times...only 1/10 of the equivalent of the 110 stories that the heroic firefighters did 17 years ago in the World Trade Center. To honor this anniversary, local firefighters from Green Bay Station #3 will be here from 9:40-10:40. They will be bringing a fire truck, firefighter gear, and some may be joining in the climb. Students will be able to try on gear and climb steps to gain an appreciation of the weight and heat factors that are involved in a firefighter's day-to-day work. Through firefighter and community participation, we can ensure that firefighters are honored and that the world knows that we will never forget the impact of 9/11. 8:45 1st tower 9:03 2nd tower 9:43 Pentagon 10:10 Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania (eastern time) This will be considered the West HS “Fuel Up to Play 60” kick off event ...getting kids up and moving for 60 minutes a day, sponsored by the NFL and Wisconsin Dairy Association.
