Physical Activity Participation, Student Leadership,  Success with Funds

We used FUTP 60 Funds to fill a cart with small equipment (basketballs, soccer balls, portable soccer goals, volleyballs, frisbees, jump ropes and footballs) for morning and afternoon recess. The students loved the cart and many, many more students were physically active during recess times due to having access to items to play with. Our SWAT (Student Wellness Advisory Team) took responsibility for taking the cart out, collecting items and returning the cart after recess. We are applying for Funds for next year to increase the amount of items and activities we offer during recess times. Thank you Fuel Up to Play 60!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

SWAT and PE teachers identified equipment to be purchased for the recess cart and then SWAT and teachers on duty worked together to facilitate use of the cart during recess times.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Some students wanted to be irresponsible with equipment. SWAT and teachers held students accountable for equipment used with sign up sheets and vigilance during recess.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Many, many more students were active during morning and afternoon recess times due to having access to cart of equipment. We Ramped Up Recess and got kids to be more physically active at these times.
