Students at Wood River Elementary have an opportunity to complete a marathon by running one mile per day in the spring. Runners may walk, run, or jog any of the course. Parents and siblings are encouraged to join the K-5 students. Marathon medals are awarded to all students completing the 26.2 marathon and a celebration assembly is held in our gymnasium. Thirty days are allowed for the marathon completion, allowing time for sick days, rainy days, etc.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

School staff stand on the corners of the city block encouraging runners. They played music and cheered as the students ran by.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Attendance of students was high during the marathon time. They couldn' t wait until the end of the day to begin running.
