A New Kickoff with Jump with Jill

Having been a Fuel Up to Play 60 school for several years now, we were looking for a new way to generate excitement and kick off the program for another school year. Thanks to the generous funding of Western Dairy Association, we were able to bring Jump with Jill, the nutrition rock 'n' roll show, to Ryan. This energetic, interactive assembly was just what we needed to reinvigorate our students with the Fuel Up to Play 60 messaging. It was a great complement to all of the nutrition messaging we have been provided, but presented in another manner. The students were very engaged in the show, with some saying afterwards that it was the best assembly ever.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our Program Advisor and the student team worked together to plan the introductory portion of the assembly. They were responsible for sharing a Fuel Up to Play 60 message with the student body and then introducing Jill to start the show. Each member of the student team spoke. The student team also got to demonstrate their leadership skills later in the show by modeling the Bone Rap dance.

How did you accomplish your goals?

This new assembly complements the Fuel Up to Play 60 program perfectly. Our goal this year was to find a new way to present FUTP 60 messaging to our students and this show did that for us. It further cemented the nutrition and importance of activity messages in our students because they have now received it from multiple sources. It also presented the information in a fun, memorable way. Teachers have said that students reference "My Boy Milk" in the lunchroom.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We cannot thank Western Dairy Association enough for their continued support and partnership in making FUTP 60 a sustained improvement to the Ryan culture.
