Access to Healthy Foods, Physical Activity Participation,  Student Leadership

Hello there, I’m the P.E. coach at Allen and William Arnold. We have seen a remarkable difference in our school as far as choices of foods or snacks to eat, our behavior in general and being a better person all around. We have turned our school into a proactive campus rather than reactive. Our new administration is very supportive in all aspects. Our students have been spoken to and made aware of diabetes in our state and how we are one of the highest or the highest state. Our students have been shown how to look at the serving sizes. You don’t have to finish the whole bag of chips in one seating. We’ve seen more students choose baked chips. For snacks, they are eating granola bars, increasing their water intake and being more physically active. The new phrase on campus is “healthy body, healthy mind”. We hope to make this a new trend at Allen & William Arnold.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goal with the help of our great students.
