Vernadette chavez, Ventana Ranch Elementary School
Community Involvement, Physical Activity Participation, Teamwork
We are working with the National Park Service to encourage 4th grade students (and their families) to get outside and walk. We partnered with New Mexico Takes on Diabetes, who provided us pedometers for use at the school. The park services mapped locations of nearby parks and routes that students could walk. Our goal is physical activity and awareness of the local parks near the schools.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Using a program that enables free admission to students and their family to any National Park, we hope to encourage families to learn about the outdoors and make this Play sustainable throughout their lives.
