5th grade peer leaders are leading new recess activities each month. Students PK-5 have the option to participate and try something new and different. Peer leaders created an introductory video to help get students on board. Additionally, they promote a new activity each month, lead the activity, and give away cool prizes for those that participate.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have two recess teams that have surveyed over 300 students to gather innovative and creative ideas on how to "ramp up" their recess. Each month we designate a week for Ramp Up for Recess.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

During our obstacle course Ramp Up for Recess week, two days were spent in the gym because of rainy weather. With so many students in one gym, it made it challenging. Peer leaders had to shorten their courses and make some last minute changes!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students look forward to participating in different options during Ramp Up for Recess week. It also gives some students that normally shy away from playing group activities the chance to play in a safe, fun environment!
