Weslaco High School has adopted Gibson Park. Gibson Park is city park located in Weslaco, TX. Once a month, Weslaco High students are in the park cleaning, painting, trimming trees and working to get this park in shape. We want the community to come out to the park and increase their physical activity. Weslaco High Schoo's goal is to increase physical activity by making Gibson Park a inviting place to come out and play.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This play will last during the year and beyond because we have committed to the City of Weslaco to be out in the park every month. Weslaco High's participation in Fuel Up to Play 60 also encourages us to continue working on this park and get the community involved.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenges are financial. There is a lot of work to be done in this park and the city does not have the financial resources to meet the needs of the park. Our Weslaco High group received donations from the WOW grant to purchase paint and brushes for the park. We continue to work on donations and grants so we can continue our work in the park.
