After School Care Group Joins FUTP 60 Club Milk Mustache Booth
On March 14, the FUTP 60 Club approached the before/after school care group for permission to lead the “Milk Mustache Booth” (Healthy eating) play for the students after school that day. The before/ after school care group provided the snack which was a yogurt with blueberries and strawberries. The students also had milk to drink. This Play was used to educate the students from grades Kindergarten – 5th grade on the importance of the consumption of dairy. Students explained that there are 9 essential nutrients that come from milk. The nine essential nutrients found in milk are calcium, potassium, phosphorus, protein, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B12, riboflavin, and niacin. The students were excited to hear that milk was healthy for them to drink and that yogurt was made with dairy. The yogurt parfait was an exciting snack for some of the students, who had never had yogurt with fresh berries. This new snack was something that these children can take home to their families and enjoy a new healthy snack. Afterwards, the Club did the presentation and helped serve the yogurt parfait and milk. Once the kids were finished the snack, they were able to pick a mustache on a stick and take a picture.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The advisor set up the meeting with the before/after school care teacher and created the mustaches on the stick. The before/after school care group lead teacher set up and prepared all the snacks for the play. The FUTP 60 students talked to the students about the 9 essential nutrients that come from milk, then passed out the yogurt parfait and milk. The FUTP 60 club explained how this is a healthy snack that can be consumed at home. They also took the pictures of the students with the mustaches.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Students were able to work together with the program advisor and the before/after school care teacher to help give the students in that group a fun way of learning that milk and yogurt parfait are healthy snacks. The mustaches were what made this play really fun, since one of the Program Advisors/PE teacher has a handlebar mustache. The students were able to pick a mustache like his to take a picture. It was fun!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The FUTP 60 Club will host a Milk Mustache booth during the school lunches. The program advisor/ PE teacher will help teach the students about the 9 essential nutrients in PE classes. The students will create and hand out posters in the gym and cafe to help students learn that dairy is healthy and should be consumed during all meals. The FUTP 60 Club also plans to host the Community Taste Test event Play. We plan to host a yogurt parfait tasting one for other dairy products.
