Access to Healthy Foods, Community Involvement,  Physical Activity Participation

This is the 3rd annual AG Day event at our school. We have local farmers come to the school to talk about farming, tractors, animals, etc. We had several community members volunteer their time to present to all K-5 students in our building. Our Fuel Up to Play 60 program provided a healthy snack station. We provided cheese, beef sticks, and milk. The students had a choice between chocolate, white and strawberry milk. We discussed where the meat, cheese, and milk came from and related it to our farmers and the stations that they had already visited that day. We also had some trivia questions for each grade level regarding healthy eating, being active, and Agriculture. This event is a huge success and is always a kids favorite.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We had community members, high school students, teachers and some elementary students helping at stations. We had our Ambassadors help plan the healthy eating station. With everyone's teamwork, we had a successful and fun AG Day!

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals by allowing the Farm and School to work together to put on a very educational and fun event. This event provided some students with opportunities they will never have a chance to experience again. We also were able to allow the students to learn that without our farmers, we would not be able to eat and drink some of the main healthy foods that are provided at our dinner tables at night.
