Physical Activity Participation
We recently had a consolidation of two schools, making our PE classes much bigger. With one particular class, we wanted to divide into different groups, so as to maximize participation in the gym and other areas of the school. We have a large group of students in one period who love to walk and are delighted to walk one mile for PE at least 3 times out of the week, instead of waiting for space in the group games in the gym. They enjoy the outdoors, and pacing themselves for 30 minutes on the track. No matter what day, our PE students are ALL IN.  Whether it's a gym game or an outdoor walk, everyone participates and joins together. Even in bad weather, our walking group make it an experience in the cafeteria !

How did you accomplish your goals?

Plan well with other PE teachers, communicate well with students and make sure goals are expressed on a regular basis and explain how to reach them.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students know our expectations in PE and as long as we are consistent with them, then the kids have structure to learn from.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Always very well. It's part of being a PE teacher; working and being on the level of the kids!
