For the first time, Minico High School offered a "Sped Ed" Special Education class for all students with disabilities. The students dressed down every day, were fitness tested and taught about the importance of fitness and good nutrition.
The variety of disabilities made planning a challenge, but so worth the effort. Students were taught basic skills in sports activities, group games, aerobic dance and team building skills. It became this teachers' favorite class. The students would return to their self-contained classroom or resource room full of excitement and enthusiasm.
Most of the activities and equipment were possible because of FUTP 60 funding and support. This Program Advisor is so grateful to have had the opportunity to teach this class and create a positive and meaningful experience for some very special students.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
The school administration and our community were invited to visit and be involved in our activities. There has been a wonderfully positive appreciation for the program and what we had accomplished with student growth and development.
