Karen Crittenden,   Missouri City Middle
Community Involvement, Student Leadership,  Teamwork
For the past few years we have been focused on encouraging students, family members and others to eat healthy and increase their physical activity. Our goal has been to promote good health for everyone. One of the ways we have done this is through dance your anger away day during lunch. In our 7th grade health class they have been have been walking on fitness Friday every week when possible. We have also encouraged kids to choose healthy snacks and eating breakfast daily. Additionally we have suggested to students to reduce the use of technological equipment/screen time and interact more with others. Texting healthy message in our club has also promoted our overall goals. In Human Services lower fat meal preparation and food substitutions has been encouraged. In our special education classes eating healthier has been discussed. We have been encouraging this continuously because it has been proven that if kids do more physical activities and eat nutritiously they do better in school.
