Physical Activity Participation
During the 2018-2019 school year,  Bloomer Middle School students started a Walking Club to promote students' activity during recess time. Each student receives a card in the shape of a shoe, which has 20 punches on it. They receive a punch every time they complete a lap around the parking lot. Each completed card is the equivalent of four miles walked or run. Students at the end of the school year with the most run/walked will earn prices. All students in the walking club receive a shoe token on a necklace and get prizes at the end of the year. So far to this point, we have 65 kids entered into the Walking Club and over 100 miles walked/run to date.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students planned the awards for students to receive. They developed the bulletin board and cards that all students get when participating in the Walking Club.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We will continue the Walking Club from year to year.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students are more active and willing to do things at recess, especially during the cold winter months. More activity opportunities at recess lead to fewer behavior problems in the classroom.
