Breakfast For Everyone — First Meal Matters

Access to Healthy Foods
We send breakfast to the classrooms along with fruits every day. The students enjoy eating breakfast in their rooms. They don't have to wait in line. They go to their classroom and the breakfast is waiting for them. Their teachers can still have instructional time at the same time the students enjoy a healthy breakfast. We also send down a fresh fruit or vegetable to their classrooms during the mid morning twice a week . It is usually a fruit or vegetable that the students have never had before. An example of this would be a fig or persimmons or even a gooseberry . The students seem to enjoy the fruits and vegetables.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The teachers and students work to together to make sure that all the classrooms receive their breakfast tray every day. The teachers help pass out the fruits and vegetables that are delivered to their rooms.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I am going to continue to make sure that we offer breakfast in the classrooms and that we continue to serve fresh fruits and vegetables twice a week to the classrooms.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I have seen more students participate in eating breakfast at school instead of home plus lots of students don't get to eat at home. I also have seen more students trying the different fresh fruits and vegetables than in the past.
