Access to Healthy Foods

Our chosen Student Ambassadors completed the school wellness investigation and found that our school breakfast was an area of need. The students interviewed peers to see what the barriers were to eating a nutritious breakfast every day. They found many students skip breakfast and weren't aware of the program offered before school. Our Ambassadors created a menu using student suggestions for the week. They created a newsletter to send home to educate families about the importance of breakfast. When the week arrived, we gave away prizes to all breakfast participants (stickers, bookmarks, posters, etc).

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students interviewed classmates and teachers to identify needs and formulate solutions. They worked closely with our food services director to develop menus within the guidelines.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Attendance increased during breakfast week and all students were exposed to the benefits of eating a healthy, daily breakfast.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to continue the student written newsletter and include healthy recipes and breakfast tips monthly.
