Lake Hazel Elementary has Buddy Day at the Track, when kindergarten through 5th grade students buddy up to encourage each other to walk the track. Laps completed are tracked and accumulated towards mile markers that are displayed in the school cafeteria. This opportunity provides the older students with a sense of responsibility towards their younger buddy. The younger students feel special because they are able to spend time with an older student.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our staff and students worked together to accomplish the goal of walking the most miles for the Meridian Mayor's Challenge. Older students handed out sticks that were used to count laps walked. Staff encouraged students to be out on the track during recess and staff members joined students during this time. Students were always excited to have the opportunity to spend time outside the classroom with their teachers! By working together, Lake Hazel did win the challenge!!
