Burger Bash

Keri Babcock,   John Adams Middle School
Access to Healthy Foods,  Student Leadership
We planned and developed our Second Annual Burger Bash on December 19th. We had several meetings prior to the Bash in which we worked with Student Nutrition Services to plan the ingredients and layout, created messages to be read on Jag News (our daily announcements), and designed and created posters to promote the event. On the day of the event, we also had prizes available for those who drank milk. Random milk drinkers could find a Fuel Up to Play 60 sticker on the bottom of their carton. The could choose from a variety of FUTP 60 prizes or dairy products. We also shared nutrition and fitness facts on our Jag News.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to organize this each year. Our initial goal was to use it as our kick-off, but it got delayed by a couple of months.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

It takes longer for the students to make their choices and to put their sandwich together. We had to create a layout that didn't get in the way of walkways, but made the burger building efficient.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The adults acted as a guide while the students helped pick ingredients, developed slogans for the posters, and created messages for the announcements.
