Here at Bush Elementary School, we have started a Run Club for 5th and 6th graders after school. We are going to have Monday and Thursday after school running practices, working up to run a 5K. We are trying to get kids more involved in their own physical education and activity. So, far we have 18 students that have committed to participating in after-school practices, and we are continuing to grow. Our 5K is in November, and we will take a break from Run Club until we reconvene in the Spring! We are so excited about this opportunity to keep the kids moving and active outside of physical education class!
How did you accomplish your goals?
We sent out permission slips with information to the parents, and spoke to students in class to spark interest about our club! We were anticipating a small group of interested students, but we have already reached 18, and are still growing. Our goal was to get 10 students interested in our after-school Run Club, and we have definitely exceeded our goal!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We will have a Fall Run Club, and then we will have a Spring Run Club with hopefully the same or better outcomes. I hope to continue our new Run Club for the years to come!
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
We have faced challenges of getting kids interested and involved in after-school commitments every year. To have this much interest before we even really begin is phenomenal! It gives me high hopes for the future here at Bush Elementary!
