We were able to take all of our 7th grade class to a farm day field trip. We spent half the day at a local dairy farm learning about how a dairy farm is operated and where our dairy based products come from. The other half of the day was spent at a farm that raises beef cows and crops. The students were able to learn about the process that actually goes into getting their meat and foods. This day was a great experience for students to realize the hard work that actually goes into making and preparing their foods. For some, it was a shock that it doesn't just magically appear in the grocery store! Great day!
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
It is difficult to find the funding to have students participate in field trips. We were able to work with the other 7th grade teachers and administration in making this trip a success.
