Cardinal Fitness Club Smoothies
Our Fuel Up to Play 60 Club decided to partner with our school's Cardinal Fitness Club to provide fruit and yogurt smoothies during their after school program. The Cardinal Fitness Club is a club created by two high school students in which students stay after school to participate in a variety of physical activity games. Our FUTP 60 club members thought it would be a great idea to provide a healthy snack to their members. On the last day their club met, we made delicious smoothies for everyone. It was a big success!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our students worked as a team to prepare the ingredients, blend the smoothies, hand out the smoothies, and clean up afterwards. The students from the FUTP 60 club and the Cardinal Fitness Club then played some physical activities outside to celebrate. The adult advisors for each of these clubs worked together to coordinate the schedule, buy the ingredients, and supervise the event.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goal of healthy foods everywhere by providing a healthy snack to an after school program. Outside of our event together, this club did not have the funds to provide food to students. As a result of our partnership, we were about to introduce healthy fruit and yogurt smoothies to students who had never tried them before!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We faced the challenge of preparing and serving 30+ students smoothies while facing a time restraint to remain on schedule. We delegated specific tasks to FUTP 60 members so at the event, everyone had something to do and knew how to do it well. The result was a effective "assembly line" to make and give out the smoothies. We got a smoothie in everyone's hand with time to spare.
