CATCHing up with Canyon Vista! CATCH stands for Coordinating Approach to Children's Health and over the years, RRISD has done a variety of activities to ensure students, staff, and the community stay physically active and choose healthy food choices. At Canyon Vista, we have been teaching CATCH lessons, making sure students and staff are eating healthy and drinking water, and getting 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity every day! This year for healthy concepts, we are doing a theme for each day of the week! We are trying to focus on the physical, emotional, social, and mental health of all students, staff, and the community! The following themes are: Meditation Monday: This will help with everyone's mental health and we will be doing meditation exercises in our classes. Track Tuesday: This will fall under physical activity, and we are encouraging all teachers to take classes out and walk the track during advisory and off times. Water Wednesday: Encouraging all students and teachers to substitute sugar sweetened beverages, sodas, and whatever else that might not be as good for us and focus on drinking lots of water. Think About It Thursday: We are having students reflect on how they are feeling....and it can be on anything. Life in general, school, friends, family, health. This will help with their mental state and social aspects. Flexibility Friday: During P.E. classes, we are leading different types of full body stretches so students can work on their flexibility, focus, and blood flow. I am encouraging teachers to do the same, and I shared 10 tips of why stretching is so important for people. We are assigning a theme for each month and when we have completed each one, we will start over. We are trying to provide health materials, tips, videos for students and teachers to learn and enjoy a healthier lifestyle!
