Access to Healthy Foods, Success with Funds,  Teamwork

Our school held a celebration day to reward good behavior that included students from every grade rotating around to five different stations. Our Fuel Up to Play 60 Club was in charge of one of these stations to provide a healthy snack. At our station students taste tested three types of cheeses and three of apples then voted on their favorites. After the vote our FUTP 60 Club members helped facilitate a discussion about eating healthy snacks. This was a huge success; we were able to reach every student in the school!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our FUTP 60 students worked together to record the taste testing votes and lead the healthy snacks discussion. It was great how each student had their own role to help put on this station. Our staff worked together to help cut cheese cubes and slice the apples. Without working together as a team, we could not have gotten it done.

How did you accomplish your goals?

One of the goals that our FUTP 60 Club members came up with was to reach as many students in the school as possible. They thought it was important to include every grade level. By coordinating with the other staff members to include FUTP 60 in our school-wide celebration day, we were able to accomplish this goal.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Since this event I have seen a difference in the types of food students are bringing to school. From their lunches to snacks for their classmates. I have had students come to me to tell me about new types of cheeses they have tried outside of school with their families. Our taste testing sparked excitement and curiosity to try new healthy snacks!
