Central Montcalm Upper Elementary Move-A-Thon Success
The Central Montcalm Upper Elementary School Hornet Team kicked off the school year by hosting a Move-A-Thon Family Night. The event was promoted via the school newsletter, morning video announcements and invitations sent home with students. One of the Hornet Team students wrote and submitted a press release which was published in the local newspaper. Over 100 people, including students, families and community members attended the event. Participants rotated through six physical activity stations where they had the opportunity to work out using the new in-door physical activity equipment received through the FUTP 60 grant.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Teachers, community volunteers and students worked side by side at the Move-A-Thon, assisting and instructing participants on the use of the new physical activity equipment. The students were also responsible for making sure the equipment was used safely and cared for properly. The student/adult teams also staffed three breakfast tasting stations where they served food items and managed the taste test ballots.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The in-door physical activity equipment has been organized into portable tubs that can be signed out by class rooms to use during in-door recess throughout the year. Instructions on the availability, sign out procedures and care of equipment has been sent out to teachers.
