Access to Healthy Foods

We are very fortunate to have a Nutritionist on our staff at Chadwick R-1 School District. We partnered her with our school wellness team ambassadors from each grade level K-12. Those students served as our Student Leaders and assisted with ordering, preparation, and distribution of our grab and go, yogurt smoothies and breakfast anywhere foods. These students also lead the instruction in partnership with our school Nutritionist, at our Health Fairs. Working together with the community, their peers and the MU Food Nutrition team, all 15 student ambassadors have grown to be leaders by example in healthy eating and playing.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

District realizes that this is not just a temporary fix; it is a life choice change. The staff and community know the need is great and have developed a strong foundation for health nutrition by starting the Chadwick School foundation non-for profit organization to help raise funds to continue to grow this specific area of need. Working together with all stakeholders, we will make a life change difference for years to come!

How did you accomplish your goals?

Chadwick R-1 implemented a health nutrition education plan and alternative breakfast platform (grab and go. The response we have received from students and parents is amazing. Students are making healthier choices at home and school and in turn their parents are making healthier choices. We are working diligently to make the healthier living change and I feel it shows.
