For the first year, my students took the 30 minute run challenge. They were expected to run for 30 minutes consecutively without stopping. Initially, they thought that this challenge was impossible. After a little convincing, they were willing to accept the challenge. We practiced and increased our time daily depending on the improvements of the group. After 2 months of practice, the students had already surpassed their initial individual goals. I had three fourths of all my students reach our 30 minute end goal. I was very proud of each of them...and they too were very proud of themselves!!! This has taught them that they can do anything they set their mind to do, as long as they put in the work.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
The improvements that I have noticed have been the positive talk around school. You hear students talking about almost reaching their goals, surpassing their goals, and practicing outside of school to help them reach their goal. This has been a big deal to ALL of the students! This challenge has also opened up their minds to challenging themselves in other areas of their lives. A lot of positivity has come from this challenge and I couldn't be more proud!
