Champions Fitness was started last year. Our goal was to be more physical active and eat healthier. Teachers started to meet with doctors and fitness experts. They wanted advice on how to create, start, and maintain a healthier lifestyle. The advice was to eat healthy, exercise, and fill your mind with positive thoughts. I relayed the feedback to our students and heard what they thought. Here at our school we serve breakfast and lunch to all students. Our physical education class offers 45 minutes of physical activity every day. We have a gold coin system and we reward positive behavior with the gold coins. We started to reward students with gold coins for physical activity and healthy eating. Our teachers started to participate in a workout program called Gladiator. They encourage students, staff, and parents to join. I have seen the workout and incorporated many of the exercises in my routines. One of the main components was walking. We mix in running also but walking is very important to getting the body moving. We make sure all of our students walk or run every day. Students are taken for walks around the school if the teacher is noticing their students are getting distracted. I have seen and heard the positive feedback from students, teachers, and parents. We are excited about the improvements at our school. The students have learned to be more respectful, be independent, be more active, and also be more productive in the classroom. Our students have been more attentive in class which has led to better scores and behavior. Thank you Fuel up to Play 60 and National Dairy Council we appreciate everything you do for us.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We started to reward students with gold coins for physical activity and eat healthy. One of the main components was walking. Walking is the easiest and best form of physical activity you can get. We talked and did some surveys on what the students liked to eat and how their bodies felt after a good work out. By doing this, it helped the students understand that when you eat healthy your body and mind perform at its best.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
To continue a play year after year is always difficult. Our plan is to continue to educate and praise. We believe that if we continue to research and spread the word on the positive outcomes of walking and healthier eating the students will make it a way of life
What improvements have you seen at your school?
They have learned that by eating healthier as well as being more active, their bodies and minds work better. Our students have been more attentive in class which has led to better scores and behavior. Thank you Fuel up to play 60 and national dairy council we appreciate everything you do for us.
