Chef Challenge

Copper View Elementary in Sahuarita, Arizona held a Chef Challenge between 4th grade students and district administration. Each team was to make a healthy meal and have it judged. This took place during our school lunchtime, so the other students were able to watch and learn about healthy eating. This tied in with our Roving Chef program that students get to participate in during the school year.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Last school year, Copper View started the Roving Chef program. It started out with 5th grade only and this year it has expanded to all grade levels. Each grade is assigned a month and 12 lucky students get to participate in the program. They get to make the meal and enjoy it afterwards. The students really enjoy it. Nothing like being a Chef for the Day!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students were Chef for a Day and had to work alongside the nutritionist and Chef. Students were split into 2 groups and each one created a healthy meal. Students take turns adding ingredients to the meal with the supervision of the adult present.
