During conferences at Lovejoy Elementary, parents and guardians are here to discuss their child's progress with teachers. Over the span of three days, we are able to speak with all our families. This is also a wonderful time to promote upcoming school events and ideas with our parents as well. This year, our school nurse set up a table with fruit and information from FoodCorps to promote the trend of choosing healthier options for snacks. This was a huge hit for our students and families! At the end of every night our table was completely empty and kids were excited to try a fruit as a better choice.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our school nurse reached out to all faculty and staff to take volunteers and set up this table. With the help of three staff members, we were able to successfully pass out information and fruit for our families.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Students are now asking when will be the next time the school hands out fruit or other healthy snacks.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Every opportunity where there will be families in our building, we will work to pass out information promoting healthy snacks, physical activity, or information regarding better lifestyle choices.
