Christmas Food Drive

The Student Leadership Team (SLT) wanted to reach out to our community and build a healthy community outside of our school building. At Torrey Hill, we have a food drive every Christmas to donate to local families in need. While the food poured in every day, our Student Leadership Team took the time every morning to sort through the food for the families. As the SLT sorted through the food, they were adding labels to healthy food choices. The labels read "The Building Healthy Communities Student Leadership Team recommends this item as a healthy choice. Enjoy!" The students have enjoyed doing this, knowing they are reaching out and helping the community and not just the school.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

While the food was brought in by other students at our school, the Student Leadership Team and our advisors worked together to sort the food. After the food was sorted, the SLT would put stickers on healthy food for our community.
