Cocopah's 8th Annual Back To Football Friday Kickoff for Fuel Up to Play 60
On Friday, 9/9/16, Cocopah Middle School had our 8th Annual Back-to-Football Kickoff for Fuel Up to Play 60. Students were encouraged to take the pledge via a poster and on-line, wear red, participate in our tailgate lunch, and lunch time activity stations facilitated by various groups in the community (various sports coaches, activities, Be Kind Dancers, Scottsdale Firefighters, etc. ). Our sixth grade students were involved in a kick-off assembly introducing Fuel Up, guest athletes, audience participation cheers and incentives, etc.). Our APT assisted with the event and hosted the hospitality room. Hydration stations and activity stations were available throughout all three lunch periods. Arizona Cardinals team mascot, Big Red assisted the program advisor in firing up the crowd to Fuel Greatness for the 2016-2017 school year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We needed a great deal of teamwork to make this event a success. The Program Advisor, the Dairy Council of Arizona, students, teachers, staff parents, and members of the community worked together to make part of the day come together effectively. There are so many opportunities for people to become involved and take on leadership roles (before, during, and after the event). Our kick-off has many moving parts and something for everyone!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The weather in September is always a challenge when you are planning an outdoor event in the "dry heat" of Arizona. Our kickoff is in early September so we need to rally people to get involved shortly after school begins. It takes a village to Fuel Greatness :)
