Colts Fitness Camp

The Indianapolis Colts Youth Football Department along with IU Health, Riley Hospital for Children and the Indiana Dairy Council Inc. have teamed up to create the Colts Fitness Camp. Colts alumni player and Super Bowl XXLI winner Mike Prior teaches students how to work out and live a healthy lifestyle during this hour long school program. We had 135 students participate in this program which included 5th grade - 8th grade. They worked them out using dumbbell exercises and jump ropes as part of the fitness plan. They also discussed the value of nutrition and each student was given a carton of milk to drink when they finished. It was a great day!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We work on circuit training exercises during PE classes. We don't have enough dumbbells for everyone, so we use our own body weight. I really enjoyed having the dumbbells as part of the workout because they were able to work specific muscle groups instead of the entire upper body or lower body. I am looking into how I can get funding for 5 lb dumbbells for each student to use for warm ups, circuit training, and other things that would be beneficial for them.
