FUTP 60/YAC students toured the U-46 commissary (facility that prepares meals) on 12/8/15. Students were instructed on how to package and prepare meals. They were also given a tour of the refrigerated truck, walk-in cooler, and freezer where thousands of food items are kept.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Commissary staff showed FUTP 60/YAC group how to package a school breakfast on the conveyor belt from start to finish; conveyor was put on a slower pace for the students so they could prepare a packaged breakfast; students had tour of the facility.
How did you accomplish your goals?
To familiarize students with process of packaging meals sent to elementary schools; students learned commissary staff is responsible for food to be precisely measured into package container according to menu approved by government requirements.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
The students have a better understanding of all the steps that go into preparing and delivering thousands of meals to U-46 students.
