At our first Parent -Teacher night, we held a Community Fitness Fair. This included smoothie sales of winning recipes chosen by the students, a fitness test that students administered and a tour and demonstrations in our fitness room.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students were tasked with deciding which smoothies to make and sell. They researched and decided after a sampling which would be the best. Students followed the recipe and make all the smoothies. They advertised the smoothies and challenged the parents to try the 3 Minute step test challenge, as well as giving tours and demonstrations to parents.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals by having all the students show up to work their shift and taking the lead from our older students. It also helped that the students were part of choosing which activities to model to the community and the smoothie recipes.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

One challenge was to get the parents involved and talking about fitness. We did have recipe cards to hand out and the students actively recruited teachers and parents for participation.
