Cooking Club
F. M. Golson Elementary has implemented the performing arts at our school of almost 800 children in K-2nd. We believe in positive behavior and want to support the children by motivating them to earn clubs each week. The children earn tickets each day by obeying the rules, doing their job as a student, and being a positive role model. On Friday, the child attends the club of their choice for nine weeks. The clubs consist of Cooking, Dance, Musical Instruments, Art, Basketball, and Kickball. In cooking, we are teaching them how to read recipes, cooking vocabulary, how to cook, and how to eat healthy. The children are meeting their inner chef. They experience first hand how to put on a chef's hat and become a creator of things they can eat. The students know that they must know how to read in order to be able to eat. We have lots of movement in the club and physical activity. We compile the recipes into a cookbook by the end of the nine weeks. The students love cooking so much that they go home and teach their parents how to cook the recipe after they go to the store for the ingredients. It has been a huge success!
