Cooking Up a Storm - Cooking Club

It's amazing how easy it is to cook up a healthy snack all on your own. It's amazing how simple ingredients and basic utensils and a little effort transform something yummy for your tummy! Learning how to slice, dice, chop, mix, spread, cut, roll out, blend, and so much more transformed an after-school club of amateur chefs into soon-to-be culinary artists.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Due to the overwhelming popularity of this program it will be a club again next year!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We were hoping for 10 students per month. After our first announcement of the program we had over 30 students involved. Each month we had to expand to three date offerings to ensure everyone that was interested was able to participate.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Healthy eating habits - students requesting healthier food for school functions - students knowing how wonderful milk can be transformed. (I have "caught" many of them explaining to students how to make healthy snack that will keep you energized and full - milk smoothies, apples dipped lightly in chocolate, homemade pizza, etc.)
