Dairy for Healthy Bones and Teeth

Students learned about the benefits of 3 servings per day of dairy. Students learned in PE about how their bodies need milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. every day to help their bones and teeth be strong. Students in Kindergarten know words like calcium, pro-biotics, and Vitamin D. They also understand that they need 3 servings every day. We had a hands-on food replica to demonstrate what a serving looks like.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our student team created posters for the hallway so that students could be reminded of the "Dairy 3 a Day Challenge".

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to continue the health lessons monthly and to include classroom teachers in our efforts to teach students about the importance of daily dairy.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Students were drinking whole milk and we had to talk about healthy milk choices, and switching to 2% and then later switching to 1% or fat free.
