Together, the Orange County Dairy Princess Sydney Parkin and the Junior Wellness Committee LEAD Golden Hill Elementary School to a TOUCHDOWN!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The adults provided the tools needed for the students on the Junior Wellness Committee to create posters to promote their their schools FUTP 60 event. The following day, they hung the posters throughout the school. They were involved in every part of the process from sampling smoothies or parfaits (parfaits it is) and what nutrition and activity plays to work on. Sydney explained the program while the Junior Wellness Committee members ran the activities in the gymnasium for the entire school.

How did you accomplish your goals?

To promote ownership of the event, we provided tee shirts to the Wellness Committee and the Dairy Promotion Team. They were given full creativity to make the posters for the event. They were also given the opportunity to lead the activities. Each student went home with either a coloring book and pencil, FUTP 60 beaded necklace or a FUTP 60 motion sensitive light up bracelet!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

In a few weeks I will go back to the school and visit all of the classrooms with the Junior Wellness Committee members to see if they need any help with the classroom activity breaks, Ramp Up for Recess activities and ways to include 3 servings of dairy a day in their diet.
