We created morning announcements for the National School Lunch Week. Including one for highlighted dairy. It is National School Lunch Week and we are going to Save the Day with a Healthy School Lunch. Milk from dairy cows is a source of calcium. Calcium helps build the more than 200 bones in your body. Did you know that about half those bones are in your hands and feet? You can get your hands on refreshing milk by getting on your feet and going to the cafeteria for lunch. Milk in the cafeteria is often a local product from dairy cows living in Texas. Don’t forget to save the day with milk on your tray and purchase a meal at the Cool Caf for a chance to win a soccer ball!

It is National School Lunch Week and we are going to Save the Day with a Healthy School Lunch. Saving the day is easy when you have a super friend like fiber from grains. To save the day with fiber friends you need to eat whole grains. You get the whole grain when you eat whole wheat bread and pasta, corn tortillas or brown rice.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
The students are more aware of the healthy choices and terms used to describe the foods offered in the lunch program. Dairy is the highlight of the nutrition and our students love to drink chocolate and regular milk with their lunches. The milk consumption has increased since we began talking about the healthy choices.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We encourage healthy eating with daily announcements and the students ask more questions about the food they're eating. It offers an education piece to the lunch experience and the announcement categories encourage whole nutrition.
