The students at Conway dance every day at the beginning of PE class. We use dance as a way to warm up and get the students excited for their time in PE. We use a variety of different music categories. Each 9 weeks the students learn a new dance that involve both stretching, rhythm, and cardio aspects. My students over the year have greatly improved and have looked forward to learning the new dance each 9 weeks. Dance is a great way to get the kids up and moving. The students absolutely love listening and dancing to current music. When school dances come along, they are up and moving doing dances they learned in PE.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The challenges that I face are that all students are not comfortable with dancing. I do allow my student who want to help lead, however nobody is ever required to dance independently or in small group.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I have seen the kids up and moving quickly when they arrive to PE. I also see the smiles from students and the excitement when it is time to learn a new dance. I keep the dances easy so all kids are able to learn.
