At our Middle School dance, our Fuel Up To Play 60 team set up a table inviting students to taste apples from a local orchard. We gave out free fresh apples slices as an alternative to concession stand snacks. Kids really enjoyed the cold fresh apple slices and as word got out we were very busy.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Teachers really appreciated having a healthy snack available. Kids enjoyed the apples and talked about how good they were. The Fuel Up Team, many of which would not have attended the dance, had a chance to be involved at the dance. The quieter kids really enjoyed talking to their peers about healthy snacks and what Fuel Up does at our school.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We were set up right next to the concession stand and I think some of the adults were surprised at how much the kids enjoyed apples over candy bars.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Kids are talking about the next dance and already planning for what we are going to serve.
