Physical Activity Participation

This year, we have established days for each grade level to participate in the 100 Mile Club. We meet every four days to run and play games.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We have over 67 fourth grade students signed up this year, 45 fifth graders and 31 six graders registered. On a typical day, they come in on their assigned day and highlight their names, then start walking or running the perimeter of the gym. We then start off with some relay games and finish with an active game - crab soccer, pin ball, etc. We have covered over 11,000 miles to date. We also throw in some healthy benefits or suggestions for running or walking.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge is to keep an organized, planned events for the students to be excited and learning about running.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have several students still signing up to attend the club, so the excitement of the program has increased our numbers through the year. The teachers have commented on the students being excited to come and exercise and look forward to what activity will be presented that day.
