- Physical Activity Participation
Our school participated in our first annual Mileage Club program this year. Kindergarten through 5th grade students walked and jogged in the morning before school along with teachers and parents. Participation in this program was optional and we had an overwhelming response with at least 75 active participants. Throughout the duration of the program, our students earned a necklace and a token for reaching the one and three mile benchmarks. Additional tokens were earned as students accumulated miles at specified mileage benchmarks. In order to support and promote individual academic data collection and recording skills, we required the students to document their distance every time they participated. The data was transferred to a large visual board to show off their individual progress and achievement as well. We ended our fall season with a Turkey Trot Fun Run for charity. In order to participate, students had to bring 2 cans of food to donate to the local Salvation Army. There were a total of 146 students that participated in the Fun Run which accounts for about 33% of our student population. The upper grade levels completed a 3K Fun Run while the lower grade levels participated in a 100 Yard Dash Fun Run. Trophies for 1st – 3rd place were given to our upper grade level winners and 1st – 3rd place medallions were awarded to our primary grade level winners. As a culmination, the students were recognized for their successes during our morning announcements.
