Drink Milk and Recycle - Aeroponic Garden
Our FUTP 60 Student Ambassador Team collected milk cartons and cleaned them out. Holes were punched in the bottom of the cartons. We got a huge Rubbermaid tub and cut circular holes in it using a doorknob cutter. We filled the milk cartons with Rockwool and Mint seedlings. We placed the cartons inside the holes. In the tub, we filled it with water, PH formula, minerals, and a water pump. The mint grew beautifully and we were able to make infused mint water for the school to sample.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We had a hard time figuring out the PH of the water to grow plants. We had a Master Gardner help us and overcame this challenge quickly.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have seen more classrooms recycling milk cartons for classroom projects. One classroom made our cougar mascot out of milk cartons. It was very cool!

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals through great teamwork. Some Ambassadors collected the milk cartons and cleaned them. Some prepared the tub with minerals and PH formulas. Some put holes in the milk cartons and some prepared the milk cartons with Rockwool and seedlings.
