East Salisbury Gets Energized

Allison Welkie,   East Salisbury Elementary
Physical Activity Participation
Many students, (like many teachers), come into school on a Monday morning with little energy. After eating breakfast, it is great to get up and get moving as a class. This energizes the classroom and gets everyone in the same state of mind to learn and grow as a team. Our students love to pick the different songs or moves to do and it creates a positive learning environment right away for the week.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We set the standards for the teachers within the first faculty meeting of the year. They know it is not intended to be extra work for themselves, but to allow the students the opportunity to become leaders.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Some of our teachers still believed it would be a lot of extra work. I took my planning time to run a Brain Break in their classroom and show them how easy and fun it can be... Teachers need Brain Breaks too!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Our students are excited for Mondays now and to get up and moving!
