Edison Middle School promotes physical activity to raise funds for local charity!!

6th grade students were given an assignment on compassion where they had find a need in the community to see if they could help in any way. Those students approached the Fuel Up to Play 60 student committee about hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament before school to raise money for a local charity. The FUTP 60 committee took on the project. We created a small entry fee and sold fruit smoothies during the games. We had over 100 students participate in the tournament. We raised $150 dollars for the charity through this project while promoting physical activity and healthy eating.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students approached the Program Advisor to ask if they could work this into our FUTP 60 time before school. The students also had to work the principal and their classroom teacher who initially gave the assignment to make sure this would fulfill the requirements for the student project.
